APPLY FOR A MEDICAL VISA TO INDIA
To apply for a medical visa to India, follow these steps
Step 1: Get a Hospital Invitation
We provide a letter from a recognized hospital in India, that includes:
- Patient's diagnosis and treatment plan
- Doctor's contact details
- Hospital's NABH/MCI accreditation proof
Step 2: Apply Online
- Visit the official Indian e-visa website: (link unavailable)
- Select "e-Medical Visa" and fill out the application form
- Upload required documents, including:
- Passport copy
- Hospital letter (Appendix II)
- Recent passport-sized photograph
- Proof of financial means
Step 3: Receive Visa and Register in India
- Receive your e-Medical Visa via email
- Register with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) within 14 days of arrival in India (or 24 hours for Pakistani nationals)
Required Documents
- Valid Passport: With at least 6 months' validity
- Hospital Appointment Letter:
- Recent Photograph: Passport-size
Proof of Relationship: For attendants (if applicable)
Additional Information
- The medical visa is valid for 60 days with triple entry permitted
- Extensions can be applied for through the FRRO/FRO
- Up to two attendants are allowed, with separate Medical Attendant

1. Eligibility & Purpose
Purpose:
The Medical visa (MED Visa) is for foreign nationals whose sole purpose is to receive specialised medical treatment at a recognised hospital or treatment center in India.
Eligible Ailments:
Cases are considered for serious conditions like cardiac disorders, organ transplants, neurosurgery, ophthalmic disorders, renal disorders, and other critical ailments.
Attendants:
Up to two family members (blood relatives) can accompany the patient under separate medical attendant visas
2. Key Documents Required
Invitation Letter:

Medical Reports:
Copies of medical reports and analyses supporting the need for treatment in India.
Financial Proof:
Documentation showing sufficient funds to cover treatment and living expenses (e.g., bank statements, sponsorship letters).
Valid Passport:
A passport with a minimum validity of six months from the application date.
Photographs:
Recent, passport-sized photographs.
3. Application Process
Application Form:
Complete the online visa application form accurately and submit it through the official Indian visa website.
Submission:
Submit the filled form and supporting documents to the Indian Embassy or High Commission in your home country.
Visa Fee:
Pay the non-refundable visa fee.
Processing Time:
The processing timeline can vary, and additional documents may be requested.
4. Visa Details
Validity: The visa validity is at the discretion of the issuing authority and can be for up to one year, or the duration of treatment.
Entries: Allows for triple entry within its validity period.
Extending the Visa: Visa extensions may be possible in exceptional cases based on medical necessity and require a letter from the hospital authorities and submission to the local Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO)
